It is possible to do something that has a real impact on the nuclear furture of South Africa.

These words arrived in my inbox this morning, sent by Peter Becker to members of the Koeberg Alert Alliance .

The deadline for submissions on the Environmental Impact Assessment for Eskom's proposed Nuclear-1 project EIA: 12/12/20/944) is tomorrow. You can make a difference. And here's how. Send an email to bongi.shinga[at]acerafrica[dot]co[dot]za. In the body of your email, if you don't have the time to actually comment, say something along the lines of:

I am concerned about the EIR. I support the submission from the Koeberg Alert Alliance, which highlights 36 corrective actions that need to be addressed before this report can claim to be objective, correct and complete.

And then email ALL of your friends, family and acquaintances to do the same. Please.

The Koeberg Alert Alliance is a group of people opposed to the new PBMR and other new nuclear power stations at Koeberg, 28 km from Cape Town.

There is no escape from radioactive pollution from uranium mining and fuel processing the north, transport, and nuclear power stations on the south coast. There is also no solution to high-level nuclear waste management.

Nuclear is NOT the solution for South Africa. It is NOT the green alternative to coal.
