top organic box schemesSubmitted by sproutingforth on Thu, 2008-07-31 10:52
Organic box schemes are now extremely popular in the major cities of Jo’burg and Cape Town, particularly, with various options that range from online ordering and delivery to your doorstep – like the Ethical coop and Ganics – to placing an order by phone, fax or email for your box, and picking it up yourself. Various health shops too, like Creeds in Cape Town, offer their own organic box schemes. Organic box schemes in Cape Town include: The Ethical Coop – they have a great online service and a weekly blog , Ganics (delivered to your door), Harvest of Hope (vegetables and fruit grown on plots in local townships, well worth your support), The Organic Box – they’ve been around the longest, Wild (amazing local organic beer and locally grown organic coffee on offer), and Organic zone, with collection points at the Olive Station and Constantia Waldorf school. Organic by Nature , an organic lifestyle shop based in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley offers a weekly fresh produce delivery, Christiana’s whole food shop in Steenberg village offers a box on Wednesdays, whilst Bird’s Boutique Café , and Zetler Pharmacy , both in the city bowl, offer weekly box schemes. Johannesburg doesn’t have quite the same level of selection, nevertheless, Wensleydale farms has been there since the beginning of the organic movement, with pick-up points around the city, and the Organic emporium delivers to your door and offers an online ordering system. Foxglove Herbs and delicacies , based in the Kyalami shopping centre, supply weekly organic boxes from their shop with orders placed by email. In Durban Earthmother organic in Bulwer Road, Glenwood, offer a box scheme where you phone in your order and collect from them either on the same day or the next. They also sell fresh organic produce at their veg market on Tuesdays. ( categories: )
